在留手続き

International students are required to obtain the "Student" status of residence.
Students whose status of residence is other than "Student" should immediately change it to "Student".
Students who do not obtain the "Student" status of residence are not eligible to apply for subsidies or scholarships for international students.
When you change your status of residence,  please go through the procedures to change it at the regional immigration office.

留学生は、必ず「留学」の在留資格を取得してください。在留資格が「留学」以外の学生は、直ちに在留資格を「留学」へ変更してください。なお、「留学」の在留資格を取得しない学生は、留学生対象の補助や奨学金などへの応募資格がありません。在留資格の変更手続きをする際には、入国管理局で変更の手続きをしてください。

If you wish to extend your period of stay, you must complete the extension procedure at the regional immigration office.
Please be sure to apply for the extension before your period of stay expired.
The regional immigration office will start accepting the application three months before their stay period expires.

在留期間を更新する場合、入国管理局にて更新の手続きをおこなってください。必ず在留期間が満了する日より前に更新手続きを行うようにしてください。在留期間の更新は、通常、在留期間満了日の３ヶ月前から申請を行うことができます。

Foreign nationals residing in Japan are, in principle, exempted from obtaining a usual re-entry permit when re-entering Japan within one year from the date of their departure.
Special re-entry permit is permission for foreign nationals who stay in Japan with the status of residence and possess a valid passport that they do not need to obtain re-entry permit when they depart from and re-entry Japan within one year (If their period of stay is less than a year, the permission will be until the expiration date of the period of stay).
If you wish to leave Japan under the special re-entry permit, you must present your valid passport and residence card to an immigration inspector upon departure and submit an ED card ticked the column indicating your intention of departure by the special re-entry permit system and tell them that you wish to depart with a special re-entry permit.

出国する際、「みなし再入国許可」の制度を利用すれば、新たにビザを取り直さなくても、そのまま日本に戻ることができます。
「みなし再入国許可」とは、有効なパスポートと在留カードを所持する外国人の方が、出国する際、出国後1年以内（在留期間の満了日が出国後1年以内に到来する場合は、 その在留期間の満了日まで）に日本での活動を継続するために再入国する場合は、 事前に再入国許可を受ける必要がなくなるものです。「みなし再入国許可」による出国をする場合は、 出国審査場の入国審査官に、有効なパスポートと在留カードを入国審査官に提示し、「一時的な出国であり、再入国する予定です。」と記載された欄にチェックをした再入国出入国記録を提出するとともに、みなし再入国許可による出国を希望する旨を伝える必要があります。

Please note that if you have plans to leave Japan beyond one year, you must obtain the re-entry permit before departure.

なお、１年の期間を超えて出国する予定がある方は、これまでどおり再入国許可を受けて出国する必要がありますのでご注意ください。

When international students intend to engage in an activity to operate profit-making businesses or an activity for receiving consideration other than the activity permitted under their status of residence, they must obtain permission to engage in an activity other than that permitted under the status of residence previously granted, in advance.
Applications are made individually at the regional immigration office.

留学生がアルバイトをする場合、資格外活動許可申請を行う必要があります。申請は、各自が入国管理局で行います。

International students of Kitasato University (status of residence "Student") working as a Teaching Assistant(TA) or Research Assistant(RA) at Kitasato University do not need to apply for permission.

なお、北里大学の留学生（在留資格「留学」）が、北里大学でティーチング・アシスタント（TA）やリサーチ・アシスタント（RA）をする場合は、資格外活動許可申請の必要はありません。

International students who are scheduled to enroll in a graduate school after graduation and whose enrollment will be after the expiration of the period of stay under the current status of residence "Student" may continue to stay in Japan under the status of residence "Designated Activities" until enrollment in a graduate school (up to 1 year after graduation from university)
Applications are made individually at the regional immigration office.

大学を卒業後、大学院への進学が決まっている留学生で、入学時期が現に有する在留資格「留学」の在留期間満了後となる方については、一定の要件を満たす場合、入学までの間卒業後1年以内に限り、在留資格「特定活動」として、引き続き日本に滞在することが可能です。
申請は、各自が入国管理局で行います。

If an international student wishes to continue job hunting in Japan after graduation, they need to change their status of residence to "Designated Activities".
Applications are made individually at the regional immigration office.

留学生が大学を卒業後も就職活動の継続を希望する場合は、在留資格を「特定活動」に変更する必要があります。申請は、各自が入国管理局で行います。

Consultation desks at each Regional Immigration Bureau and branch office (Immigration Information Center, etc) answer questions you may have about immigration and residence procedures.
They respond to inquiries by phone, at the counter, or by e-mail in multiple languages.

出入国在留管理庁では、入国手続や在留手続等に関する各種の問合せに応じるために、各地方出入国在留管理局・支局に相談窓口（外国人在留総合インフォメーションセンター等）を設置しています。窓口だけでなく、電話やメールでの問い合わせにも対応しています。
